Shark week - Durban (20th – 26th March 2011)
Reasons for going
The Aliwal Shoal is rated as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world and
whilst the main attraction for divers are the numerous species of shark
including Tiger Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerheads, Blacktip Sharks, Dusky
Sharks, Ragged Tooth Sharks to name a few, the reefs are also home to
many species of reef and game fish, dolphin, rays, eels, turtles and much
more!
The dives start with fantastic surf launches from the Umkomaas river, and
from there we travel south diving the best sites each day for the conditions.
The dives are generally for advanced divers and the depth varies from
around 15 meters to 35 meters depending on the dive sites.
March in South Africa is summer and the warmer waters offer fantastic
opportunities of encounters with some of the oceans top predators and
marine-life. During the summer the reefs are covered with game fish which
brings in the Tiger Sharks, Bull Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Blacktip
Sharks, Whitetip Reef Sharks etc.
During this period, South Africa's coast is visited by large numbers of Manta
Rays, Eagle Rays, the last of the Humpback Whales heading back south and
from time to time Whale Sharks may be seen. The water temperature is
around 24°C - 26°C and the diving takes place early in the morning when
then the sea conditions are at their best.
ScubaAddicts is perfectly situated for your ultimate shark diving adventure in
South Africa. The purpose built Lodge has the diver totally in mind making
your stay as enjoyable as possible - wake-up, roll out of bed and go shark
diving!
The Lodge accommodates guests in eight en-suite bedrooms with balconies,
and there is a pool to relax beside after diving. All the rooms enjoy fantastic
uninterrupted views overlooking the Indian Ocean's long sandy beach, the
launch site and the Aliwal Shoal. They have access to miles of sandy
beaches. Whales, Dolphin and even Whale Sharks can be spotted in the
water from the Lodge as they cruise on by!
With the dive centre on-site, there is no travelling to worry about, you can
simply enjoy breakfast then wander down to the dive centre to kit up...
After the diving enjoy a hot shower at the dive centre and rinse the dive gear,
before you enjoy lunch at the lodge, relax with a drink by the pool, chat to the
guides to learn more about what you’ve seen on the dives, download photos
and video footage or even enjoy a massage.

Marsa Shagra & Nakari 2011 -
22th to 29th June - Shagra then 29th June to 6th July - Nakari
Reasons to go
The ultimate diving adventure for any level of diver!
For over 20 years the Red Sea Diving Safari team have explored the fringe reef oceanography on the Egyptian coastline between Safaga and Sudan. These unique resorts gives diving enthusiasts exclusive access to many outstanding reefs from these still relatively remote locations.
Marsa Shagra and Marsa Nakari are beautiful, unspoilt corners of Egypt from which you can discover further reefs along this extensive coastline. Marsa Shagra and Marsa Nakari benefit from fantastic house reefs with hard and soft corals of offshore quality, excellent for dive training, snorkelling and night diving. Marsa Nakari will be opened for a minimum of 12 divers making this an ideal location for Clubs and groups.
We reckon that these Villages are the best value and all-round diving experience you will find in the Red Sea.
As well as unlimited diving on the house reefs of Shagra and Nakari, the trucks leave twice daily to explore the sharms, marsas and reef walls along the coral coast. Enjoy over 150km of coral fringe reef, from 8m coral gardens to 60m drop offs, pitted caves, elaborate tunnels and a diversity of marine life to match.
The outstanding offshore reefs of Elphinstone, Abu Dabbab, Nakari, and Shaab el Gadeer are effortlessly accessed from our Villages by either hard boat or RIB and can be arranged and paid for locally. Elphinstone, a jewel of the south is directly opposite Shagra, with walls covered in soft coral plunging down into 400m of water. Here the strong currents and multitudes of fish attract up to seven species of shark. Shaab Samadi (Dolphin House), another gem lies just off Nakari, with beautiful soft and hard corals grafted into caves and caverns.
Truck Dives
The safari trucks leave twice a day at approximately 8am and 2pm to dive the sharms, marsas and reef walls along the egyptian Red Sea, they cover approximately 100 kilometers of coastal fringing reef sites where easy access makes this area ideal for shore based diving. The truck dives are organized so that divers have an opporunity not to repeat the same locations during their stay.
In-Range Boat Dives
In addition to the unlimited house reef diving package and 2 daily guided truck dives, you can pay locally for in-range boat dives by RIB or hard boat. The in-range boat diving program allows divers to discover stunning dive sites within an approximate distance of 3-4 nautical miles such as Sharm Abu Dabbab, Marsa Egla Top and Shaab or Habili Nakari as well as the new sites at Gabal el Rosas, Abu Nawas Garden , South Garden, Sharm Hesham and Ras Samadai.
Long-Range Boat Dives
Please note that long range dive sites (exceeding 4 nautical miles) such as Elphinstone and Dolphin House are now arranged and paid for locally.
For the budding photographer the house reefs are in an ideal setting to perfect your underwater camera techniques.
